Meta unveiled Meta VR Glasses at Connect 2026 on September 23, introducing a new VR system that puts only about 100 grams of hardware on the user’s face.

A two-piece design cuts headset weight

The glasses keep sensors and displays on the face while moving compute, battery and storage into a separate pack connected by an optical tether. Meta says the on-face portion is about one-fifth the weight of Quest 3.

5K cinema, live sports and a private workspace

Meta VR Glasses use micro-OLED panels in what Meta calls a 5K Infinite Display. The system is IMAX Enhanced certified and is designed for 3D movies. In the U.S., Meta is also promoting courtside-style viewing for more than 100 immersive live sports events per year through partners including ESPN and TNT Sports.

For productivity, users can create multi-screen private workspaces and use a flat surface as a virtual keyboard and touchpad.

$1,299.99, arriving spring 2027

Meta says the device will launch in spring 2027 for $1,299.99 in the U.S. The company has not yet announced final pricing for every market.

KX3 perspective

The architecture may be as important as the display specs. By separating wearable hardware from the compute and battery pack, Meta is prioritizing comfort over full physical integration. That could become a broader pattern for high-performance wearables where thermals and battery mass are difficult to hide in glasses-sized hardware.
