Cohere launches North 2 with enterprise agents, private deployment and spend controls
Cohere North 2 adds multi-step agents, memory and governance. Here is what U.S. businesses need to know about hosting, controls and pricing.
Cohere introduced North 2 on October 5, 2026, updating its enterprise AI agent platform with a redesigned system for coordinating multi-step workflows. The release brings together cross-session memory, reusable skills, shared knowledge libraries, lightweight application creation and business automation.
North 2 is aimed at organizations deploying agents across real work systems, rather than consumers looking for another standalone chatbot. Its emphasis is on how those agents access data, run securely and stay within an organization’s operational and spending limits.
What North 2 adds
Cohere says the new orchestration system can manage complex sequences of tasks and help users build agents or automations from natural-language instructions. Human approval can remain part of workflows that involve consequential decisions or actions.
Memory lets agents carry context across sessions. Skills offer reusable capabilities, and Libraries provide shared organizational resources. North 2 also supports producing documents, dashboards and lightweight apps, along with visual workflows and monitoring for automations.
Model choice and enterprise connectors
North 2 is model-agnostic: customers can use Cohere models or bring other compatible models. Cohere also lists connectors for Slack, SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Outlook and Exchange, Jira, Linear, Notion, and GitHub.
Some additional financial-data integrations mentioned in the announcement are planned rather than already available. Availability of a specific connector should therefore be confirmed during a deployment evaluation.
Private deployments and governance controls
Cohere describes deployment options including self-hosting, a virtual private cloud, hybrid infrastructure, on-premises installations and fully air-gapped environments. That flexibility is particularly relevant to organizations with sensitive data or strict security requirements.
With North Admin, administrators can configure roles and permissions, manage which models employees and agents may use, monitor token consumption and set quotas, spending limits or alerts. Cohere also describes guardrails and policies intended to require appropriate authorization or human oversight for sensitive actions.
U.S. availability and pricing
Cohere is promoting North 2 through an enterprise sales process. It has not published a standard U.S. monthly subscription price or a fixed per-seat price for the platform. Interested companies are directed to contact sales for a demonstration and deployment discussion.
The announcement is not a rollout of a new model selection inside a general-purpose consumer chat service. U.S. organizations considering North 2 should verify their requested hosting option, integration support, contractual terms and final pricing directly with Cohere.
What it means for U.S. businesses and developers
The practical question for IT and engineering teams is no longer only which language model delivers the best answer. Deploying agents also raises questions about identity and access management, data residency, cost visibility and when a human must approve an action. North 2 packages these operational questions alongside agent capabilities.
KX3 perspective: controlling agents is becoming a product feature
As AI systems gain access to source repositories, company documents, messaging systems and internal APIs, governance becomes part of the core user experience. A highly capable agent is not especially useful if administrators cannot explain what it can access or stop it from overspending.
Cohere’s approach illustrates that shift, with the added flexibility of bring-your-own-model deployments. Still, its announcement does not establish independent performance or total-cost advantages over competitors. Those claims need hands-on testing and a concrete deployment quote.
