Final Cut Camera 2.4 adds iPhone 18 Pro variable aperture, SDI output and professional scopes
Apple has released Final Cut Camera 2.4 with a redesigned interface, direct control of iPhone 18 Pro's variable aperture, professional video scopes, clean SDI output and genlock offset support.
KX3 News — U.S. / Global Edition
Apple released Final Cut Camera 2.4 on September 29, 2026, giving its professional iPhone video app a redesigned interface and deeper control over the iPhone 18 Pro camera system.
Direct control of iPhone 18 Pro’s variable aperture
Creators can manually choose aperture settings on the iPhone 18 Pro’s 48MP Fusion Main camera or use shutter-priority and aperture-priority modes. The update gives video shooters direct access to a hardware feature that previously lived mainly in the system Camera experience.
Cinematic effects for ProRes and Apple Log workflows
Final Cut Camera can record regular video with Cinematic-style depth information, including footage captured in ProRes and Apple Log, so focus points and depth of field can be adjusted later in Final Cut Pro.
More professional monitoring and output tools
With iOS 27, version 2.4 adds RGB Parade and histogram scopes, clean SDI output through an HDMI-to-SDI converter and genlock offset controls. False color, clipping indicators and improved focus peaking are also available for exposure and focus monitoring.
Available as a free update
Final Cut Camera 2.4 is available as a free software update beginning September 29. Variable aperture control specifically requires iPhone 18 Pro, while other improvements depend on supported devices and iOS 27 features.
KX3 perspective
Apple’s strategy is increasingly about connecting capture, monitoring and editing into one workflow. For app developers, the lesson is broader than video: products become more valuable when data can move from acquisition to processing and final output without forcing users through disconnected tools.
