Microsoft refreshes Surface Pro 12 and Laptop 13 with Snapdragon X2 Plus and up to 95% faster on-device AI
Microsoft has introduced new Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch models powered by Snapdragon X2 Plus, promising up to 95% faster on-device AI, more than 60% faster graphics and improved battery efficiency.
KX3 News — U.S. / Global Edition
Microsoft introduced updated Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch models on September 23, 2026, both powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus platform.
Major NPU and graphics gains
Microsoft says the new generation delivers up to 95% faster on-device AI performance, more than 60% faster graphics and up to 18% better battery efficiency compared with the previous generation, while retaining fanless designs.
Surface Pro gets an AI-first pen workspace
The new Surface Pro includes Microsoft Ink Canvas, a pen-first AI experience for sketching, annotating, generating images and summarizing text directly on the canvas.
Surface Pro 12-inch starts at $1,149.99 in the U.S., while Surface Laptop 13-inch starts at $1,199. Both are scheduled to become available October 13 in select markets.
What it means for buyers
Microsoft is keeping these models in the premium Copilot+ PC segment rather than using the new chip to push prices down. The value proposition is instead centered on stronger local AI performance, longer battery life and tighter integration between Copilot and normal PC workflows.
KX3 perspective
The important trend is that AI PC differentiation is moving beyond raw NPU throughput. Microsoft is increasingly embedding AI into pen input, image work and productivity surfaces, reinforcing a broader shift toward AI that appears inside existing interactions rather than as a separate destination.
